This fall, the Ekonaut association is organizing the last lecture from this year's cycle related to the topic of insect biodiversity within the project "City Gardens for City Bees" under the auspices of the Secretariat for Environmental Protection of the City of Belgrade in cooperation with the association “HabiProt” from Novi Sad and the creative hub Nova Iskraorganizuje poslednje predavanje iz ovogodišnjeg ciklusa vezanog za temu biodiverziteta insekata koje se ovog puta specijalno bavi tihim herojima iz sveta insekata a to su oprašivači.
The lecture will be held online via the Zoom platform on Thursday, October 28, 2021, starting at 6:00 p.m. To reserve your place, register via the LINK
During the lecture, we will talk about: hoverflies, butterflies, ants, beetles, snails and other species that play this important role in our ecosystems. The first association of most people at the mention of pollinators will most likely be bees, which is fine, having in mind that we consider them to be the most important group of pollinating insects. However, pollination and sweet nectar are not reserved exclusively for them, but also for many other animals, whose importance is often neglected. We will try to process most groups of pollinators, explain why the survival of plants is unthinkable without them and how man endangers these animals. We will see why some flowers open at night, why they are strangely shaped, why they are hidden from prying eyes. We will also focus on the diversity and survival of lesser-known pollinators in urban areas, their aspects of protection, the importance of planting native plant species and many other important topics.
The lecturer, Mihailo Vujić, is a young scientist, a biology student who studies insects ie. entomology since primary school, by which he gained many years of experience in field work and identification of various insects as a young man. His research area includes hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae), butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) and mantises (Dictyoptera: Mantodea). He is a member and active associate of the Association for Sustainable Development and Preservation of Natural Habitats of Serbia "HabiProt", where he is one of the editors of the database on insects of Serbia "Alciphron".
Association "HabiProt", founded in 2005, brings together nature lovers, both amateurs who are willing and determined to work for the common good and preservation of the natural beauty of Serbia, and experts who have dedicated their work to studying biodiversity and protecting species, habitats and entire ecosystems. Through its activities, the association advocates the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity in Serbia and the Balkans, recording species and habitats in this area, raising awareness of Serbian citizens, especially youth, about the need to protect natural habitats as a means of sustainable development. They also work on the affirmation and implementation of European and national legislation in the field of environmental protection. One of the largest and longest-running activities of the association is the launch of an online database for collecting data on Serbian insects "Alcifron" (http://alciphron.habiprot.org.rs), through which citizens from all over Serbia gather and get involved in the development of civic science in Serbia.
