“Garden on a Plate” – KidMaker Science Camp for Children
The two-day eco camp “Garden on a Plate” for children aged 9–12, with Ekonaut as part of the educational team, brings together nature, science, gardening, bees and pollinators, mushrooms, healthy nutrition, and creative thinking through play, experiments, exploration, and hands-on activities. Through the program, children will discover urban gardening, draw inspiration from nature, and explore the connection between plants, bees, and the food we eat. They will learn how a garden functions as a living system, why pollinators are essential to our food supply, and how what we often consider waste can be returned to the natural cycle. Educators from EkoFungi will introduce children to mushrooms, mycelium, and circular food systems, while the KidHub team will encourage participants to develop their understanding of circular economy and sustainability through creativity and design thinking.
Dates: Dates: May 30 and June 6
Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location: Medonosni vrt, Silosi i Nova Iskra Savamala
Age Group: 9-12 years
Applications: Open until May 29 via the registration form
Places are limited.
What can children expect?
During the first day of the camp, children will explore how a garden works as a living system, how healthy food is produced, and why bees and other pollinators are vital for nature and nutrition. Through outdoor activities, simple science experiments, and keeping a Science Journal, participants will gain hands-on experience with sustainable food systems. A special part of the program will focus on mushrooms and circular food systems. Children will learn how food scraps, plant materials, and organic waste can become valuable resources again through composting, mushroom cultivation, and creating healthier soil for future gardens.
On the second day, children will use design thinking to create small-scale solutions for healthier eating habits, reducing food waste, and strengthening the connection between gardens, kitchens, and communities. Through discussion, teamwork, drawing, and building simple prototypes, participants will choose a challenge - such as designing a mini garden, developing a waste reduction plan, or creating an idea for protecting pollinators - and present their solution at the end of the program.

Participation Donation
Participation in the camp is organized through a donation supporting the “Science That Grows” campaign. By donating, you secure a place for your child in the program while also supporting the implementation of the “Science Playground” educational program in two kindergartens and two elementary schools during September and October 2026.
One-day camp pass: 3,800 RSD

Daily Program
May 30, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM – From Garden to Plate: Circular Food Systems – Silosi Dorćol
A workshop exploring how gardens function as living systems, how healthy food is produced, why pollinators matter, and how organic waste can return to the natural cycle through composting and sustainable gardening.
June 6, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM Designing a Garden on a Plate: Ideas for Healthier Nutrition – Nova Iskra Savamala
A workshop where children use design thinking to create small sustainable solutions for gardening, healthy nutrition, and stronger connections between nature, food, and community.
“Urban Pollinators” Workshop – Small Allies of Big Change
On the same day, May 30, from 2 PM to 6 PM, Ekonaut will be at the Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry in Banovo Brdo, as part of the Science Festival program, in collaboration with the Center for the Promotion of Science.
During the workshop, visitors will discover who urban pollinators are and why there would be no plants, food, or healthy ecosystems without them. Through an interactive exhibition and educational materials, participants will explore the world of urban pollinators — bees, flies, and other insects that play a central role in maintaining and supporting urban ecosystems.
Visitors will learn about the remarkable power of these tiny creatures and discover practical steps they can take in their everyday surroundings to support pollinators and give their green spaces new life.
The workshop is open to all ages — children, parents, and seniors — and requires no prior knowledge. All you need is curiosity and a desire to explore.
The organizer is the Science Festival, which over the past 15 years has grown into the largest science event in Southeast Europe. The festival aims to promote both established and emerging scientists from Serbia and abroad, while inspiring interest in science by demonstrating just how fascinating, inspiring, and fun it can be.

This year’s Science Festival program, titled “Think Green,” takes place over two days — Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30 — and is divided into four thematic sections:
FIELD OF INNOVATION
GARDEN OF IDEAS
EXPERT TEENAGERS
SCIENCE FICTION STAGE
All festival programs, as well as entrance to the Arboretum, are free of charge for this special occasion.
