Talks dedicated to biodiversity and relevant environmental topics, planting honey plants and a workshop for children are just some of the activities that Ekonaut, in cooperation with partners, will organize on May 20 to mark World Bee Day and World Biodiversity Day.
The association and eco-social company Ekonaut, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Swedish Embassy in Belgrade, will mark World Bee Day on May 20 at the Botanical Garden, and two days later World Biodiversity Day. On that occasion, the preliminary results of the National Environmental Report will be presented by the delegation of the Republic of Serbia at the "Stockholm +50" Conference, which will be held on June 2nd and 3rd in the Swedish capital.
The event is also a call for action to help pollinators and bees, a species of insect that has been declared the most important species on the planet due to its ecosystem services. As part of Ekonaut's "Initiative for Honey Gardens", planting of honey plants will be organized.
As part of the event, Ekonaut is also organizing two panel discussions on the importance of the role of bees and the necessity of their protection. Some of the questions that the panelists will address are: What awaits us if bees and pollinators continue to disappear? Do we know the situation with local biodiversity in Serbia and Belgrade from the point of view of domestic scientists and beekeepers? How to motivate socially responsible companies and citizens to get involved and act in the field of bee protection? The panels will include environmental organizations, representatives of beekeeping organizations, as well as local scientists involved in helping bees and pollinators. During the discussion, special attention will be given to good examples from practice, as well as to the recommendations of the panel participants on how to improve local biodiversity. Special attention will be paid to the cultivation and establishment of areas with honey plants as well as the impact of urban beekeeping on local biodiversity.
On this occasion, Ekonaut will present the second edition of the publication "100 plants for bees and pollinators" (project "BeeConnected", 2019), which allows each individual to offer bees and pollinators their open spaces by planting and nurturing honey plants, thus contributing to local biodiversity. Also, this year's publication "Introduction to urban garden communities" will be presented, which promotes the"Introduction to urban garden communities" was presented.formation of a system of garden communities in Belgrade.
