In cooperation with the “Matica” Foundation from Vrsac, we are presenting a lecture by biodynamic designer Uwe Burka, as well as the current activities of the foundation regarding the building of an eco-village in the vicinity of Vrsac, below the Vrsac Mountains, which would be in accordance with the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The lecture will be held online on Wednesday 28 April 2021. All who are interested can sign up by clicking on the LINK
With over thirty years of experience, Uwe Burka is an international advisor for the construction of socio-ecological settlements, as well as for urban development through new economic models.
Biodynamic agriculture represents a completely new approach to agriculture. Many types of alternative agriculture have originated from this approach – organic, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, to name a few. This new approach is difficult for farmers to accept, because it’s best described as accepting the idea that a farm represents an organism – the unity of land, flora and fauna, including us people. This unity means the coexistence of all forms of life on the farm – including those we usually call weeds and pests. The aim of the biodynamic farm is to be a closed system that provides food for the land, plants, animals and people. There is no such thing as bad land when it comes to biodynamic agriculture. Every farm strives for diversity – the presence of trees, bushes and meadows that support diversity.

The existence of the “Matica” Foundation is based on supporting the development of biodynamic agriculture, Waldorf education and anthroposophical medicine (which has become an integral part of the health system in Serbia). The “Baloj” farm intends to become a center for people to gather and live, in addition to encouraging the development of these three directions of action. The “Baloj” farm strives to enable the spiritual development of each individual in a way that suits the individual. The “Baloj” farm also strives to enable the self-sustainability of the people who live on the estate, but also to enable the manifestation of all personal abilities of each and every individual, be it for business or artistic expression. The adoption of the healthiest achievements of modern civilization should be based on new social relations, different from those the modern world is heading towards now.
The current activities of the “Matica” Foundation are focused on establishing the first facilities where people can live, establishing a Waldorf kindergarten, a bakery and a cultural center (a small restaurant and a room for accommodating guests). This will enable us to continue to educate about anthroposophical medicine (a three-year seminar for art therapy is being planned, in addition to the seminar on biographical therapy that has already started), biodynamic agriculture and Waldorf education. The opening of the Waldorf Kindergarten is also being planned.
